Ute Valley Park has been on my Colorado Springs location bucket list since we moved here and I’m thrilled to have explored it with such a wonderful family. With easy parking, a variety of trails to explore, and stunning views of the mountains – including a peek at Pikes Peak – it’s the kind of place that feels made for family photos. While we had some moody clouds as a backdrop, I have a feeling this location is just as gorgeous on a bright sunny day.

A Family Session at Ute Valley Park

When I arrived, I knew right away this session was going to be a good one. Mom was relaxed and happy to just follow her kids’ lead, which is honestly my favorite kind of energy to work with. And those sweet kiddos? They did not disappoint!

Their little guy was full of adventure from the start. He was on the move, exploring every trail, picking up every stick and rock he could find. It was a challenge to get him to sit with his mom and sister, but the opportunity to build a rock tower was appealing enough. Some of the best images from the night happened right there, with him completely in his element and his mama right alongside him, just enjoying every second.

And then there was baby girl, who smiled through the entire session. Every time I looked through my lens, she was just beaming. She seriously made my job so easy!

Sessions like this one are exactly why I love working with young families. The movement, the curiosity, the in-between moments – that’s where the magic is. And those are the moments I know I’d want to remember as a mom.
