Highland Park

Highland Park has gorgeous flowers all throughout the year – there are so many perfect spots within the park. They have cherry blossoms, then lilacs, then rhododendrons, plus more. It’s definitely worth checking out.

This location has an awesome open field with tall grass. There are trees lining one side of the field, while a few others are scattered throughout. A wood fence lines the other side, giving a variety of options in one place.

Are there any particularly busy seasons for photographers in this area? Any events an incoming photographer should know about?

This is the Finger Lake region of NY, so you’re surrounded by many beautiful lakes and gorgeous scenery. Beautiful cherry blossoms, the famous Lilac Festival, and many other flowers bloom all throughout the year at Highland Park. The Hot Air Balloon Festival in Letchworth State Park is worth checking out too!

What should an incoming photographer know about permits in this area?

I have not encountered any permits personally! I do know the George Eastman Museum requires a hefty fee, so plan accordingly if you want to shoot there.

What is the biggest piece of advice you’d give to an incoming photographer?

This location will keep you busy!

Any other local expertise you’d like to share?

The studios in the area are so nice to rent, especially with the cold, long winters! I have used Studio at the Wilder and Gallery 48 Rochester, but there are plenty of others as well.

I HAVE A LITTLE SOMETHING FOR YOU!

more about me

I've been navigating military life with my family since 2008. In that time, I went from a full-time classroom teacher to an online course designer to a photographer. Actually, I still teach a little math on the side because I just love it too much!

Through it all, I've discovered how passionate I am about connecting with military families. Whether it's taking photos at a retirement ceremony, coaching a fellow milspouse photographer, or just grabbing coffee with a new squadron friend, I love this community. And as a teacher at heart, I'm excited to use this space to share what I've learned about business and life with you.

I'M ERIN.
