Aviano, Italy Photography Spotlight with Soukchay Sylakhom

Location Guides

Hey milspouse photographer! If you’re getting ready for an assignment at Aviano AB in Italy, then I hope you’ll find this location guide helpful. Soukchay Sylakhom is sharing all about her experience running her business in this Aviano, Italy Photography Spotlight. Let’s dive in!

What are your top three favorite locations for sessions? Briefly share about each.

Polcenigo

Polcenigo is a small quaint town that is a hotspot for all photographers. Every street there is an awesome opportunity for beautiful photos. You can park at Cortivon parking lot. It is small and has limited spots though, so I would come early to find parking. Like everywhere in Italy, there is a parking fee. If you have time, stop by Ristorante Locanda for their amazing risotto (only served during lunch).

Di Villa Varda Park

This park is beautiful and peaceful. There are several rows of trees and in the fall, it is the perfect place for fall foliage. There is plenty of photo opportunity everywhere you turn and lots of different trails to walk as well!

Lago di Barcis

This is the most requested spot for a session! Barcis is a turquoise lake with mountains as its backdrop. There is a parking fee at this location as well. Most importantly, be sure to check the water levels before your session because they do drain the lake sometimes!

Are there any particularly busy seasons for photographers in this area? Any events an incoming photographer should know about?

Spring and summer are popular for blooming flowers.

What should an incoming photographer know about permits in this area?

There are no permits for these locations, only parking fees.

What is the biggest piece of advice you’d give to an incoming photographer?

Immerse yourself in the culture, take a beginner’s class to learning Italian, take Italian cooking classes with Teresa Colors, and meet the locals! There are so many beautiful places to explore in the surrounding areas.

I HAVE A LITTLE SOMETHING FOR YOU!

more about me

I've been navigating military life with my family since 2008. In that time, I went from a full-time classroom teacher to an online course designer to a photographer. Actually, I still teach a little math on the side because I just love it too much!

Through it all, I've discovered how passionate I am about connecting with military families. Whether it's taking photos at a retirement ceremony, coaching a fellow milspouse photographer, or just grabbing coffee with a new squadron friend, I love this community. And as a teacher at heart, I'm excited to use this space to share what I've learned about business and life with you.

I'M ERIN.
