What are your top three favorite locations for sessions? Briefly share about each.

San Angelo State Park

West Texas is very dry and full of cactus, mesquite trees, and rocks, but there is still so much beauty in that. The state park is a great option to capture the native environment. There are lots of trails and diversity within the park, which makes it a great spot for photos. There are also long horns and buffalo, which is a cool element to the park!

Downtown San Angelo

The city has a super charming downtown area that they have fixed up over the years. There are lots of beautiful brick buildings with old wooden doors, murals, and art. San Angelo has a thriving art community, which adds so much culture to the town and makes for some really fun and interesting backdrops for photos.

Water Lily Garden

This is a unique little park that is home to a water lily garden, rose garden, and a stone path that leads through some beautiful oak trees. This location is easily accessible and offers a lot of diversity for sessions. When the flowers are all in bloom, it is a very special place.

Are there any particularly busy seasons for photographers in this area? Any events an incoming photographer should know about?

I have found it is pretty steady year-round. It slows down a little in the summer due to the heat and in the winter when its cold, but fall/spring are beautiful! The rodeo is the big event in town and does bring in some visitors.

What should an incoming photographer know about permits in this area?

San Angelo is very photographer-friendly!

What is the biggest piece of advice you’d give to an incoming photographer?

San Angelo is a great location to get creative. It’s a small town, but the opportunities are there for sure. A lot of local businesses and areas will let you take photos; there are ranches and parks, old barns, horses and livestock, and all sorts of really cool location options if you take the time to find them!

Any other local expertise you’d like to share?

San Angelo is my hometown, so I am very biased, but I think it is a truly wonderful place full of community and history. Word of mouth will be your biggest blessing in a town like this, so getting involved in the community would be my biggest piece of advice.

I HAVE A LITTLE SOMETHING FOR YOU!

more about me

I've been navigating military life with my family since 2008. In that time, I went from a full-time classroom teacher to an online course designer to a photographer. Actually, I still teach a little math on the side because I just love it too much!

Through it all, I've discovered how passionate I am about connecting with military families. Whether it's taking photos at a retirement ceremony, coaching a fellow milspouse photographer, or just grabbing coffee with a new squadron friend, I love this community. And as a teacher at heart, I'm excited to use this space to share what I've learned about business and life with you.

I'M ERIN.
