If you’re headed to Philadelphia, this location guide is for you! Grace Ellenberg of Ellenberg & Co. has plenty to share about shooting in one of America’s most historic and beautiful cities. Keep reading for her local insight in this Philadelphia, PA Photography Spotlight!
This is a great location that’s easy to access in the city. It’s the country’s oldest botanical garden. There are never crowds and always parking – a major win in Philly!

This is a perfect spot if your clients want a very “Philly” location. Elefrath’s Alley and Race Street Pier are both within walking distance of each other in Old City. The alleyways here are so dreamy!

About a 45 minute drive from Center City, Valley Forge National Historical Park is a photographer’s dream! My favorite place to shoot here is at Knox’s Trail. There’s a huge parking lot and so much variety!

Spring through fall are definitely busiest! Most families opt for in-home sessions or studio shoots during the colder months (December to March).
You should get a Philly business license! Outside of that, each location in the city has different permit requirements. None of the locations mentioned require a permit though. 🙂
Philly is exciting but tough since it’s not a military town. You’ll work with a lot more civilians. Be patient with yourself as your build up your clientele here.

I HAVE A LITTLE SOMETHING FOR YOU!
I've been navigating military life with my family since 2008. In that time, I went from a full-time classroom teacher to an online course designer to a photographer. Actually, I still teach a little math on the side because I just love it too much!
Through it all, I've discovered how passionate I am about connecting with military families. Whether it's taking photos at a retirement ceremony, coaching a fellow milspouse photographer, or just grabbing coffee with a new squadron friend, I love this community. And as a teacher at heart, I'm excited to use this space to share what I've learned about business and life with you.
I'M ERIN.
