If Andersen AFB is your next stop, this location guide is for you! Jennifer Blankenship has explored the beautiful island of Guam and is ready to share her favorite spots. Keep reading for her local knowledge in this Yigo, Guam Photography Spotlight!
This beach is located on Andersen. It’s the perfect beach for photographers because there’s such a long stretch of shore, leaving room for multiple photographers at a time. There is lush greenery, sand, beautiful waters and so much rock and coral.

Asan Beach has big “fields” of grass. While it’s usually cut, it still makes for a large area for family shots and a great place for sunset sessions. There are several other places on island more ideal for sunsets, but as far as parking and guaranteed sunsets go, it’s amazing. There are some hills and rows of palm trees as well, which add a little extra to the pictures.

I’m not actually sure of the name of this last spot, but it’s very close to Valle Esmeralda De Flora. It is a very unique spot and an easier spot to shoot at midday because of the shade. This location has most gorgeous water there is on island!

Guam is hot year round, so there aren’t really any true busy seasons outside of the standard “November Family Photos” time. A lot of families want pictures before they PCS in the early summer, plus there are Change of Command ceremonies around this time too.
To my knowledge, there aren’t permits needed to take pictures at these locations, but you will need a business license and file with Guam Tax and Revenue. They may also tell you at the tax office that you don’t pay tax if you claim less than $50,000 a year, but you still need to file it monthly.
Be prepared for rainy weather, humid climates and ALWAYS make sure the beach you are photographing on isn’t private land. There are a lot of beaches on Guam that you can’t go on, but any beach labeled on a map in a park area is available. It’s always best to make sure beforehand.
Respect the island and the people. Guam is simply stunning!
If you’re not familiar with very humid climates, you’ll need to acclimate your camera before a session for at least 30 mins to keep your lens from fogging up. Always bring water for yourself and pay attention to the weather. It rains A LOT here. Most of the time it’s just a quick shower, but there are storms that pass through too.

I HAVE A LITTLE SOMETHING FOR YOU!
I've been navigating military life with my family since 2008. In that time, I went from a full-time classroom teacher to an online course designer to a photographer. Actually, I still teach a little math on the side because I just love it too much!
Through it all, I've discovered how passionate I am about connecting with military families. Whether it's taking photos at a retirement ceremony, coaching a fellow milspouse photographer, or just grabbing coffee with a new squadron friend, I love this community. And as a teacher at heart, I'm excited to use this space to share what I've learned about business and life with you.
I'M ERIN.
