Cherry Blossom Photo Session FAQs

DC Sessions, Education, Family Session, Mini Sessions

The days are getting longer. The temperatures are getting warmer. You know what that means… it’s almost cherry blossom season!! With the blooms right around the corner, questions about spring sessions are flooding my inbox and DMs. Let’s take a look at the most common ones so you can decide if a cherry blossom photo session is a good fit for you this year!

Popular cherry blossom photo session questions

When will sessions take place?
This is the million dollar question!!! If I had a superpower as a Washington DC family photographer, it would be the ability to predict with 100% certainty when peak bloom will be! (Would it be asking too much to be able to guarantee perfect weather then too!? 😉) Because of the uncertainty here, flexibility in scheduling is a must. I have target dates for my mini sessions that will hopefully work, but we may need to change gears depending on the forecast. Additionally, I only book a limited number of full session clients in January/February and then we’ll choose dates once predictions are released in March.

What if we can’t make the date you’re offering sessions?
I will be in touch regularly leading up to the sessions giving updates and predictions where I can. (Seriously, you might get tired of hearing from me!) But, if the time comes and you aren’t able to make your session date, you can apply your payment towards another session before July 1, 2024. If that doesn’t work, I will refund your session payment minus the non-refundable initial payment.

Do we have to venture downtown for photos?
No!! While the Tidal Basin is iconic, traffic and crowds can be stressful. Plus, yes, cherry blossoms are beautiful, but there are so many other gorgeous blooms in this area in the spring. I have a few recommendations for other locations for spring photos and would be happy to share them with you!

What should we wear?
When you book a session with me, I will send you my Family Portrait Prep Guide that contains everything you need to know to be prepared for our session. What to expect, what to wear, what to bring, all of it! The short answer is that light colors pair beautifully with the spring blooms, but you’ll find lots more details in that guide.

I HAVE A LITTLE SOMETHING FOR YOU!

more about me

I've been navigating military life with my family since 2008. In that time, I went from a full-time classroom teacher to an online course designer to a photographer. Actually, I still teach a little math on the side because I just love it too much!

Through it all, I've discovered how passionate I am about connecting with military families. Whether it's taking photos at a retirement ceremony, coaching a fellow milspouse photographer, or just grabbing coffee with a new squadron friend, I love this community. And as a teacher at heart, I'm excited to use this space to share what I've learned about business and life with you.

I'M ERIN.
