I don’t think it’s possible to overstate how much I love spring in Washington DC! While the cherry blossoms get all the love, I can’t get over how beautiful the magnolias are! I visited Enid A. Haupt Garden with my own family last year and immediately added it to my bucket list for session locations this year. So, when Katelyn reached out about spring family photos, I had the perfect spot in mind!

Now, basing sessions around short bloom periods is challenging to say the least. And this year especially, the warm weather caused the trees to bloom even earlier than we were expecting. With lots of back and forth, stalking a few helpful Instagram accounts, and juggling DJ’s travel schedule, we ultimately landed on a Thursday morning at sunrise… and it could not have been more perfect! The crowds were manageable. The trees were stunning. Abby and Krissy were happy! And that, my friend, was a magical combination.

Having had the privilege of documenting the Taylor family two other times in the last year, we jumped right in. We danced, pretended to be pterodactyls, and used Krissy’s Minnie Mouse doll to solicit smiles. Katelyn and DJ were happy to play along and I just loved getting to capture life for them once again.

To the Taylors, thank you so much for choosing me to document your family while you’ve been stationed in DC. It’s been a joy to watch your girls grow over the last year. I’ll be crossing my fingers that the military brings our paths back together sometime!
