There’s nothing quite like spring in DC. Gorgeous sunrises. Warmer temperatures. And of course, cherry blossoms! If you’re a military family stationed here, it’s the perfect time to capture the essence of this assignment. This is precisely what the Crowleys were hoping for and I loved bringing their vision for a DC cherry blossom photography session to life!

A Downtown DC Cherry Blossom Photography Session

We kicked off the session near the MLK Memorial and made our way around the Tidal Basin. Oliver and Paxton were wonderful and did everything I asked, but let’s be honest. What tween boy is excited for sunrise family photos? I certainly can’t name any! Lisa and Ryan were prepared for this though and brought along their secret weapon: Brezel!

Their four-year-old labradoodle was not only incredibly well-behaved, but she provided just enough extra energy to get the boys engaged. One of my favorite photos from the day is of the two boys sitting with her. The smiles that interacting with her brought were just priceless.

With Brezel by their side, we wrapped up our session at the Jefferson Memorial. This remains my favorite spot to capture family photos on the Tidal Basin. With views of the Washington Monument from the side steps, you get an epic DC backdrop that I love sharing with military families. There was no better place to finish a DC cherry blossom photography session!
