“Man I wish you were here to photograph Steven’s fini flight!”
That was the text I got from Amanda about a month before it happened. And honestly, it didn’t take much convincing from there. As a Colorado Springs fini flight photographer, I’ll travel for the right session… and this was absolutely the right session!
I’ve known Amanda since shortly after we moved to the DC area. She booked a Huey mini session and we hit it off immediately. Somewhere among our countless coffee dates and four family sessions together, she became one of my dearest friends and biggest business cheerleaders. So when she reached out about Steven’s fini flight, I was already packing my bags.
The forecast called for rain all day. Like so much guaranteed rain that there wasn’t even a percent chance with it on my weather app. So, I came prepared with rain gear and even ordered clear umbrellas for the family… only for us to go the entire afternoon without a single drop! I mean, I can’t complain, but really!?
We were escorted out to the flight line and waited for Steven to land the Huey one last time. The moment he stepped off the aircraft, his colleagues were ready – tackling him and dousing him with water and champagne as a final send-off.
Lou, Max, and Bode weren’t entirely sure what was happening at first. Watching their dad get swarmed by a group of full grown adults with champagne will do that to you. But it didn’t take long before they jumped right in, armed with water and silly string of their own. And when the chaos settled, they did what all helicopter kids do – climbed straight into the Huey and made themselves at home.
To Steven and Amanda, it was such a joy to celebrate the end of this chapter with you! I’m so grateful our paths crossed in DC and can’t wait to see what Alabama has in store for you! 🤍
If you’re looking for a Colorado Springs fini flight photographer – or a photographer for another military event in the area – I’d love to connect. Reach out here and let’s make it happen!

I HAVE A LITTLE SOMETHING FOR YOU!
I've been navigating military life with my family since 2008. In that time, I went from a full-time classroom teacher to an online course designer to a photographer. Actually, I still teach a little math on the side because I just love it too much!
Through it all, I've discovered how passionate I am about connecting with military families. Whether it's taking photos at a retirement ceremony, coaching a fellow milspouse photographer, or just grabbing coffee with a new squadron friend, I love this community. And as a teacher at heart, I'm excited to use this space to share what I've learned about business and life with you.
I'M ERIN.
