As much as I love lifestyle newborn sessions, there’s one part that can be a bit intimidating: the light. When I have a family session outside, I have a lot of control over where we shoot. I look at where the sun is and what potential backdrops I have available and then make a strategic decision on where my families should stand. However, when I shoot in a family’s home, I relinquish a lot of that control. Many photographers feel anxious about this (I’ve been there!), but it’s become one of my favorite parts of NOVA lifestyle newborn photography. It keeps me on my toes, forces me to be creative, and honestly I just love a challenge.
When I walked up to the Coffield’s home and saw them all dressed in light-colored neutrals, I immediately felt excited. Without having seen the rest of the light in their home, I knew that we’d be able to get some light and bright close-up shots with those outfit choices. That said, the light in their home ended up being ideal. I still used a low-powered flash for a bit of fill light, but the windows, mirrors and light-colored walls made it easy to achieve the style that I love.
I’m so thankful that Whitney and David chose me to document their early days at home with Quinn. There’s nothing quite like the love between first-time parents and their sweet little baby and I was just honored to capture it. I hope these photos always serve as a reminder of the love they share in these early days. If you’re interested in a NOVA lifestyle newborn photography session with me as well, please reach out. I would love to document your family’s story too!

I HAVE A LITTLE SOMETHING FOR YOU!
I've been navigating military life with my family since 2008. In that time, I went from a full-time classroom teacher to an online course designer to a photographer. Actually, I still teach a little math on the side because I just love it too much!
Through it all, I've discovered how passionate I am about connecting with military families. Whether it's taking photos at a retirement ceremony, coaching a fellow milspouse photographer, or just grabbing coffee with a new squadron friend, I love this community. And as a teacher at heart, I'm excited to use this space to share what I've learned about business and life with you.
I'M ERIN.
