The Michael family gathered from Florida, Chicago and northeast Ohio in Kathy and Joe’s home in Rocky River to celebrate Christmas. With all of Kathy and Joe’s kids and grandkids in town, it was a perfect opportunity for some extended family photos. Despite the gray skies, twinkly Christmas lights and sweet granddaughters filled their home. From the moment I walked in the door, I knew it was going to be a wonderful session.

Extended Family Photos

In their beautifully decorated living room, Michelle took center stage as the oldest granddaughter. Her vibrant energy and joy were contagious. She loved having her picture taken and was so proud to show me her new baby doll. On the flip side, her younger sister, Sophia, could not have cared less about books or toys. She was much more interested in crackers and hanging out with her dad. We used this to our advantage though and got some adorable shots of the two of them together.

Additionally, the youngest cousin – for a few more months anyway! – was an absolute doll. Maria hopped from one adult to the next for photos and didn’t mind one bit. My favorite moment was a big smile she shared with her grandpa, making for one of the most endearing portraits of the day. I know that one especially will be treasured!

As a family photographer, capturing these moments of connection and joy for an extended family is a true privilege. The big smiles. The giggles over a family joke. The slobbery toddler kisses.
