Extended Family Photography | The Huang Family
What do you get when you combine a 100th birthday, an engagement, and Chinese New Year? One epic Huang family party! This family was welcoming and fun and it was such an honor to do an extended family photography session with them.
While I coordinated all the details with Rachel who is local, I soon learned that the majority of their family is not. Aunts, uncles and cousins traveled from all over the country for one big celebration. Since being all together doesn’t happen very often, they wanted to take formal family portraits. While this isn’t what a standard session looks like for me, I was excited for the opportunity. I knew this group was going to be a fun bunch by the way Rachel described them and that couldn’t have been more accurate.

From the moment I arrived, I could sense the excitement. Adult siblings chatting. Cousins catching up. Grandparents just soaking in having everyone together. Honestly, it reminded me a lot of my own extended family. There’s something so special about having everyone together and what better way to document it than with extended family pictures.
With a shot list ironed out ahead of time, Jared and Jocelyn helped me gather family members for all of the must-have shots. Everything went so incredibly smoothly that we were left with plenty of extra time for additional combinations. Couple shots, dog shots, even a few with the dragon NaiNai brought! There was lots of laughing and friendly bantering and no shortage of fun.
After we finished photos, this sweet family invited me to stay for lunch. I enjoyed getting to chat with some of the girls and left with a fully belly, treats for my kiddos, and a happy heart. This family is a special one and I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to capture such a memorable occasion for them.
