One of my favorite parts of moving to a new area is discovering beautiful spots for family sessions. After our recent move to Dayton, I had the pleasure of photographing the Bowers family at Carillon Historical Park. It was the perfect location for the end of the fall season, with its gorgeous colors and unique historical charm. Most of the trees around the rest of Dayton had already lost their leaves, but this little gem still held onto its vibrant fall colors, making it the perfect place to document Harvey and Val with their parents.
Carillon Historical Park is dedicated to preserving the history of the Dayton area. It features over 30 historic buildings and exhibits that highlight Dayton’s rich contributions to innovation and industry. From the Wright Brothers’ aviation legacy to the Deeds Carillon Bell Tower standing tall in the center of the park, every corner tells a story. For a photographer, this means endless opportunities for portraits.
Full of energy and curiosity, Harvey and Val were so much fun to photograph. We started on a large hill just outside the park where they twirled and ran… all while trying to keep warm! From there, we went through the main building to the back patio and shot under the pergola. I loved this new perspective, where we stayed until the train came rolling through! The kids were so excited to hear its whistle and getting a wave from the conductor was icing on the cake.

I HAVE A LITTLE SOMETHING FOR YOU!
I've been navigating military life with my family since 2008. In that time, I went from a full-time classroom teacher to an online course designer to a photographer. Actually, I still teach a little math on the side because I just love it too much!
Through it all, I've discovered how passionate I am about connecting with military families. Whether it's taking photos at a retirement ceremony, coaching a fellow milspouse photographer, or just grabbing coffee with a new squadron friend, I love this community. And as a teacher at heart, I'm excited to use this space to share what I've learned about business and life with you.
I'M ERIN.
