After 70+ days with no rain, I’d begun to think that I wouldn’t have to worry about weather for my last few Albuquerque shoots. Joke’s on me though because the week leading up to the Heavner’s session was all dreary and rainy. We ended up rescheduling because of the weather, but I was optimistic on the new day of their session. It was a beautiful sunny day… until a storm rolled in right before we were scheduled to start. Thankfully we didn’t get wet, but I had to get creative given the lighting challenges for these Albuquerque family photos.

The Heavner’s Albuquerque Family Photos

I’ve had the pleasure of capturing this sweet family two other times. About a year ago, I captured Shayla’s pregnancy with baby Charlie and then last fall we took updated family pictures once Charlie was born. As always, we had a wonderful time with them. Rylee and Abbi are the best big sisters and are so sweet with Charlie. When she wasn’t trying to make Charlie giggle, Abbi loved chasing after her little brothers and climbing trees. Alden and Rhys were happy playing in the dirt, running around, and looking for turtles.

I decided to challenge myself with my camera settings this session and shoot with a lower aperture. The risk of doing this is not capturing everyone in sharp focus. However, the payoff is a beautiful, creamy background when you nail the focus. I’m so proud of how these turned out and can’t wait to see what Jeremy and Shayla do with them. They are so good about hanging their family photos in their home and I know these will be a wonderful addition!
