Military friendships are special ones, don’t get me wrong there. But there’s something to be said for the friends we make that aren’t in the military community. The ones with the local scoop. The ones who are willing to make the most of the short time we’re guaranteed to have together. Kevin and Helen, dear friends we got to know during our time in Albuquerque, are some of these friends. Their willingness to plan a cross-country trip to see us after we moved speaks to the kind of friends they are. Plus, they just so happen to be expecting their first baby and asked if I would capture some maternity photos during their stay. As an Alexandria maternity photographer, to say I was overjoyed would be an understatement!

After sharing the “joy” of DC rush hour traffic with these friends, we arrived at Jones Point Park ready to capture their love and anticipation. The park, adorned with the last traces of fall, provided a beautiful backdrop for their portraits. As we walked around, these two quickly picked up on my staple poses. In fact, before I knew it, they barely needed my guidance. At least one hand on the bump, check. Helen’s front knee popped, check. Kevin rocking the nuzzle, check! It was so fun for me to just follow their lead and capture these sweet moments before their baby girl arrives.

To Kevin and Helen, thank you so much, not only for asking me to capture these portraits for you, but for being wonderful friends and cheerleaders of ETP. I am beyond excited to see you both embrace the journey of parenthood and can’t wait to share stories along the way.
