As a lifestyle newborn photographer, I typically photograph new babies in their homes. We document the nursery, the little baby details, the chaos of those early days. In fact, before this session, I don’t think I’ve ever photographed a newborn session for a first baby anywhere other than the family’s home. But when Grace had the opportunity for a Washington DC newborn session in the garden at the Meridian House, there was no other option. It was such a stunning place for Teju’s first pictures!
After the rainy spring weekends we’ve had, we could not have asked for a better weather day for this session. The sun was out, but not too hot, and there was plenty of shade at the garden. When we arrived, I took a quick lap around the grounds to make a plan and decided we’d start with the tall green trees and house behind the Lamays. While I love close up family shots (and still got plenty of those), I knew I wanted some shots that incorporated the scenery into the portraits. After all, there was so much to highlight in this garden!
In addition to capturing the landscape, I wanted to document all of Teju’s little features too. After all, this was still a newborn session! Grace and Ibrahim laid Teju in a basket and helped me coax a few smiles out of him. He loved it when his dad tickled his chin and was content holding his little tiger. He even held tightly onto his dad’s finger for us for a precious detail shot.
To Grace and Ibrahim, thank you so much for trusting me with these beautiful early memories and for bringing me along to such a gorgeous location! I’m so glad that the Keilsons connected us and hope Teju is always this cooperative for your family photos.
Unfortunately, my time in Washington DC is coming to end. I have very limited availability left, so if you’re interested in a session, please reach out to me as soon as possible. I will sure miss this area, but am excited to explore all the beauty there is in Ohio!

I HAVE A LITTLE SOMETHING FOR YOU!
I've been navigating military life with my family since 2008. In that time, I went from a full-time classroom teacher to an online course designer to a photographer. Actually, I still teach a little math on the side because I just love it too much!
Through it all, I've discovered how passionate I am about connecting with military families. Whether it's taking photos at a retirement ceremony, coaching a fellow milspouse photographer, or just grabbing coffee with a new squadron friend, I love this community. And as a teacher at heart, I'm excited to use this space to share what I've learned about business and life with you.
I'M ERIN.
